BA Studies (3 year course) MA studies (2 year course)

BA studies last six semesters. The number of didactic hours of classes is 1800.

The number of ECTS credits equals 180.

BA studies focus on practical skills which is reflected in specializations that students can choose from:

  • media and communication;
  • marketing and public relations;
  • cultural tourism;

The curriculum is divided into 3 components: general subjects, major subjects and subjects related to specialization. General subjects (history of philosophy, history of culture, sociology of culture, cultural communication) focus on humanistic uptake in a broad sense, major subjects (theory of culture, audiovisual culture, cultural animation) focus on chosen topics concerning culture, and subjects related to specialization focus on practical skills.

Other important areas of knowledge about culture which are included in the curriculum are: problems of contemporary culture, audiovisual culture, pop culture, regional culture, culture of the united Europe. The program offers the prospective study about problems of the culture of Central and Eastern Europe.

MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION

The aim of this specialization is to provide students with theoretical knowledge about media anthropology, television studies, new media art, media and cross-cultural communication, marketing, and public relations.

The graduates will also gain practical skills during workshop classes. These classes concern communication patterns in moderating relations between institutions and the media used, for examples, in the job of spokesperson as well as in the new information technologies employed in publicity agencies, PR agencies and institutions of audiovisual culture.

This program will enable the graduates to find job as spokesperson. They also will be prepared for job in the area of publishing and promoting audiovisual culture in publishing houses, editorial offices, radio, tv, cinemas, cultural centres, local government, advertising and PR agencies.

Advertising and Public Relations

Studies within the speciality allow to familiarize with the issues of marketing, marketing research tools and techniques, persuasive strategies used in advertising and public relations, the functioning of the media system in Poland, as well as legal regulations regarding journalism and intellectual property.

During the studies, the students will also learn the principles of communication strategies in advertising and public relations, at the same time acquiring the skills of their practical application. All this should enable graduates to work as marketing communication specialists, especially in the sphere of advertising and public relations, in all kinds of organizations, institutions and enterprises.

Cultural Tourism

Completing this specialty provides a) orientation in the cultural-civilization role of tourism, b) knowledge of various forms and functions of cultural tourism, c) information about foreign and domestic tourism and cultural resources, d) learning the principles of the strategy of state and local government institutions in this field e) knowledge of legal and financial rules of the functioning of institutions and organizations that support the cultural tourism movement, f) orientation in the scale and nature of cultural tourism in Podlasie region.

Thus, the curriculum of specialization enables professional work in institutions and organizations that have the task of handling cultural tourism, such as: state and local government administration, tourist offices and tourist information centers, traditional and electronic tourist journaling media, handling tourist routes, monuments and facilities of the museum, organization and service of educational, religious, sentimental, folk and event tourism ventures.
