The Faculty of Cultural Studies played an active role in this year’s Open Day at the University of Białystok. Our stand was run with great energy and enthusiasm by students Emanuela Zdanewicz, Hanna Manina, Galina Jaroszewska and Aleksandra Jurgielewicz.
The secondary school pupils who visited us were able to test their knowledge in a cultural studies quiz, try their hand at cultural puns, and talk about studying at our Faculty – directly with the students who know its day-to-day life best. The stand attracted a great deal of interest, as confirmed by a visit from His Magnificence the Rector of the University of Białystok, who successfully tackled our quiz.
This year, together with the Faculty of International Relations and the Faculty of Philology, we also organised an escape room, which made a big impression on the participants. Not everyone managed to find the correct password to the safe – but this made the satisfaction of those who succeeded all the greater. Mgr Igor Mogielnicki worked tirelessly to oversee this part of the event.
There was also a more academic angle – Dr Tomasz Adamski spoke about (un)washed dishes, modern-day busyness and TV series, demonstrating how everyday life can become an inspiring subject for cultural studies.
It was interesting, dynamic and – most importantly – very much in the spirit of cultural studies.
We would like to thank the organisers for the opportunity to present our Faculty, the students for their invaluable and creative help, and to the high school students – we hope – we say: see you in class next year!
